18 months!!

We have had a fabulous weekend! We went to Kansas City for a weekend of relaxation and fun - and to celebrate Kingston's 18 month milestone with his first trip to the zoo! He liked the animals, but was probably most excited to push his stroller all over the zoo - he was worn out after a few hours so we headed back home - all around it was a great first zoo trip! Here are the details on my 18 month old little man:

Our friend Amanda took some great pics about a month ago - this is one of my favorites!
Zoo trip - one of the moments he was wrangled into the stroller - he saw Nate taking a pic with the Iphone and was trying to get it :)
We are into full blown toddlerhood. Kingston has always been opinionated and strong willed, but now he is especially vocal about it - yikes! He is busy ALL of the time - running, jumping, pushing or riding toys, and LOVES being outside! Here is a breakdown of his little habits by category:

Eating: He is currently surviving on a diet of yogurt, grilled cheese, graham crackers and milk. I consistently offer a wide variety of foods (including fruits and veggies), but they rarely make it to his mouth. At this point, I am lucky he sits still enough to eat, so I am hoping its just a phase that passes quickly.

Sleeping: The child is still up at least twice a night. He has been working on his molars for about 3 months - which my doctor informed me is just "how some kids are". Hmmm....not too comforting! But we are surviving :) Luckily he is napping well for the moment, for which I am very thankful.

Motor skills: Kingston met and exceeded all of his 18 month milestone goals at our Parents As Teachers assessment last week! He is running, jumping, climbing, twisting objects and can pick up very tiny objects as well - he sometimes picks up hair off the floor and brings it to me (which could be an all day job with a golden retriever in the house!).

Verbal skills: He is constantly asking "what's that" while pointing at different objects, and is really starting to repeat words. His favorite words are still "woof" and "duck" but he will also say hi, bye, please, cheese, down, Jesus, love you (this totally melted my heart - I would have given him anything he wanted when he said it!), tree, truck, car, and many more - its just hard to keep track of it all!

Language skills: I saw a video our friend Brittany posted a few weeks ago of her son giving the sounds letters make - and he was great! He is also only about 22 months, so I bragged about his skills to all my friends, and told myself he was certainly gifted because there was NO WAY that was normal for toddlers our age. UNTIL this last week when Kingston started repeating over half of the sounds the letters make!!! I am SO proud of him. After years of work with elementary age kids who cannot perform this skill I am so proud of my boy for soaking up this information! I credit some great tips from Brittany, and the Leap Frog letter/sounds video. I will try to get it on video and post it soon!

Some random things I love about my boy:
He "helps" me rub his lotion in after his bath at night
He gives kisses and blows kisses with a cute kissy noise
He can squeeze us tight when we ask him to while he hugs us
He has a great sense of humor
He loves being outside
He loves things that move - cars, trucks, etc - he is ALL boy!
He is a great listener (when he wants to be!)
He loves books
He likes to snuggle with me
He prays with me every night
He signs "more" and "all done" and its just so cute
Sometimes he runs and laughs hysterically - so much energy to burn!
He hugs and pats his animals/stuffed dolls

We are enjoying spring and our growing boy - so thankful for all our blessings!
