Settling In

I should be napping right now. However, I simply cannot get my brain to stop thinking, so I thought a blog post may tire me out enough to get a short nap before Kingston wakes up. I have been meaning to blog but....well life has just been crazy!

We moved about a week and a half ago to Kansas City - we are living with Nate's parents until our house sells - so we unpacked some stuff here, some to storage, and left most of our big stuff in our home for staging/free storage purposes. I thought I had done a good job of keeping our stuff to a minimum - until I had to pack it all into boxes! For the most part we are organized here - we need a bit more storage for clothing items, need to take some suitcases to our storage unit, and need to develop an organized office and filing system for all our paperwork. Eeeekkkk. That last one gets me - it drives me crazy to have disorganized paperwork, and yet I am SO dreading this process. Its on my list for this week though, as it has to be done quickly!

Nate had a super busy week (as you would imagine) meeting lots of people, setting up his office, ordering a computer (once you go Mac you can't go back!) and going to Chiefs training camp. Living near his favorite football team brings him such joy that I am not sure I could adequately describe it with mere words! Some of our former students visited on friday and saturday and went with him - all returned with signed memorabilia, excitement for the season and (maybe) the hope for a few wins.

We attended church on Wednesday night for the first time this week - it was so exciting, but also strange to be somewhere different! We look forward to getting to know our students, the things that they love and the people they desire to share Christ with. Nate has so much work ahead of him planning and starting a new youth ministry - a task that is exciting but also daunting. There are so many wonderful adult volunteers that love our students and the entire church is excited for more teenagers to be reached in Blue Springs - we know that God is working and moving in their lives and ours, and we are so thrilled to be a part of it!

Goals for this week include:
1. Make it to the gym at least 4 days (as an extra blessing here in KC we get a FREE gym membership - how awesome is that!)
2. Organize the office/paperwork
3. Go to the swim park at least once :)
4. Find a hairdresser
5. Transfer all our online banking info - Eeekkk for this task as well
6. Attempt some CVS shopping/saving
7. Continue to adjust my "I'm moving so I can eat whatever I want and drink lots of coffee" eating plan to a more sensible one (I am so paying for my lack of discipline....)

Finally, I am so thrilled to be living in the city. While there are things I do miss about small town life, I love the variety of activities living in a large city brings. This last week we went to the zoo (where it felt like we were ACTUALLY visiting Africa due to heat index and humidity)the mall, and a splash park - next week I hope to hit up Deanna Rose and an early morning toddler swim time. While it is tempting to spend money on activities, I have found that there are TONS of free things to do! I hope to keep Kingston busy- and wear him out - with lots of new experiences and some fun playdates. We also hope to have our Mt. Vernon playdate friends Meaghan and Dylan visit in a few weeks - we used to get together on a daily basis and I know Kingston is wondering when he gets to see Dylan next - not to mention Meaghan and I are going crazy not sharing daily coffee and chats!

Alright...maybe my brain is ready to settle down for a nap at this point...although I don't feel too optimistic. Hopefully my next post I can boast of a completed to do list - and find my camera to take and upload some pictures! Have a blessed week!

Hi Theresa, I'm Jamie (Tripp) Franz. I graduated from Blue Ridge with Nate and I also attended SBU. I started checking out your blog when you guys had Kingston because Kingston and my daughter (Jadyn) are just a few days apart. I think it's fun to see what other kids Jadyn's age are up to. Anyway, I saw that you are looking for a new hairdresser so I thought I'd share mine. Her name is Kim. She works out of Lee's Summit and she's amazing at color and does great cuts. If you are interested let me know either here or on facebook. I know how hard it is to find someone new so I thought I should share. Hope the settling in goes well!
